Wairarapa Mayoral Relief Fund
A Wairarapa Mayoral Relief Fund has been set up for people affected by Cyclone Gabrielle.
Funds contributed to a Mayoral Relief Fund must be applied to supporting affected individuals, families, community organisations, businesses and marae – they cannot be used for council administrative or businesses costs. The Wairarapa Recovery Governance Group will decide the distribution of funds.
WHO CAN APPLY
As the financial amount available is limited, priority for support will be given to:
- provision of essentials for daily life, transport needs and household contents
- rebuild/recovery costs of buildings damaged by water or storm damage
- essential items not covered by insurance or other funds.
The fund is only available to those affected by Cyclone Gabrielle in February this year.
There are a number of agencies with funding available to assist those affected and we ask that you investigate all other available sources before applying to this fund.
We may refer your application to another agency where it better meets their funding criteria in the first instance.
HOW TO APPLY
To apply you can do any of the following:
- Complete an online application.
- Pick up a hard copy of the application form at your local council office.
- Print and complete an application form (PDF, 200kb) and:
- email it wairaraparecovey@gmail.com
- send it to The Recovery Manager, PO Box 9, Carterton, 5743
- drop it off at your local Council Office or library.

AFTER YOU APPLY
Applications will be considered by an advisory group, who will then make a recommendation to the Wairarapa Recovery Governance Group for approval and allocation.
The Wairarapa Recovery Governance Group includes:
- the three Wairarapa Mayors
- Council CEs
- Iwi representatives
- Regional Recovery Managers
- the WREMO Group Recovery Manager
- a GWRC representative
- a Regional Public Service Commissioner.
